Getting Ready for 2007 TKBB
Made a trip up to AustinKayaks in San Marcos this morning for some foam blocks to mount the yaks on my car. I’m still saving up for a Yakima or Thule (whatever I find cheapest on craigslist). They foam works well in this manner and will fit on the bars of the rack when I get it.
We’re leaving about 3:30 today and look forward to seeing some of you there tomorrow!

I still haven’t figured out how to get my kayak onto the car. The guy at the moorage warns that while the foam blocks will absolutely protect the boat, they aren’t always so good for your car. On the other hand, most car racks will only support around 100 lbs, which easily covers one boat, but not two … and it’s usually a lot more fun with company.

I could get 3 of my boats in under 100 lbs.
I’m pretty sure the better racks like Thule and Yakima can support considerable more weight. My Thule pillars and bars are rated for 200 lbs and I’ve carried close to 300 lbs of lumber home on them once.
