Sea Tour 17M – Hull Lot of Fun

I laced up the hull yesterday and pulled it tight before gluing the bow and stern. The process is pretty easy and while the lacing isn’t necessary I think it gives me time to work most of the wrinkles out before stapling. The yellow skin lets a lot more light through than the [...]

Sea Tour 17M – Finished Frame

I finished up the frame and seat yesterday and set it on the scale. So far it’s sitting right at 29 lbs. My goal is to keep it under 40 total. I’m not sure how much the skin will weigh yet but I’ve got a lightweight coaming planned that should help.

Sea Tour 17M – Have a Seat

I had a test sit in the cockpit this afternoon. It’ll fit nicely. Frame 3 will work perfectly as a foot rest and I have just enough room in frame 4 for my calves to slip through. The 2′ 8″ cockpit is definitely not too large. I’ll just be able to [...]

SoF SeaPup: Float Bags

I followed the directions in Building the Greenland Kayak for building the float bags but glued the vinyl instead of getting heat sealing fabric.

The process is pretty easy. Measure the void to be filled with the float bag. You will need the circumference of the hull on both ends and the length of [...]

SoF SeaPup: Ready to Make the Float Bags.

It was 105F in the shed when I got home so I didn’t get too much done.

I glued some extra fabric to the bow and stern and pulled out some more of the wrinkles. Then stapled the skin to the gunwales and cut the excess loose.

I started working on the [...]

Kayak Travels: The State of Iowa

download little fockers full lenght
I was thinking of taking a kayak to Iowa sometime this summer and fishing with a friend of mine so I researched registration laws for the state. I was unable to find any information on the website so I emailed, and eventually talked on the phone with someone from [...]
