I’ve been giving my new lathe a workout lately.  It’s a Jet 1642, and I highly recommend this product.  Here is a bowl that I turned from “Live Oak”  killed by hurricane Ike.  Wood borers have added their artistic touch in the last 2 years while the tree remained standing but dead.

I used the wood from that tree to make the panels for the door.

Solution? Build it yourself. This one is made of poplar with a tung oil finish.

Use a spring clamp to hold the blade on the upper wheel while threading the blade into the guides and lower wheel.

I cut about 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch on each pass. Feed the board across the saw blade. When done, ROS to smooth the saw marks.

Here is a solution:
Tee shirt material, contact spray adhesive, and an old sanding disk. put about 3 layers on.

This works pretty nice, if the pad gets worn, just add another layer.
