Inside of hull glassed

Got the inside of the hull glassed today, first I put a carbon area in the floor and sides of the cockpit then glassed in front of that then behind it. After everything set up and I trimmed the edges, I put the deck on top to see how things were going to look. [...]

SoF SeaPup: Skinning the Hull

I started skinning the hull today. Lacing up all that cord sure is time consuming. I think it went well and I managed to pull out all the wrinkles below the chine and most of the ones above. There are some small ones near the gunwale but I don’t think they’ll spend [...]

Glass on inside of the deck

After the glass was put on the hull, (last post) I applied a carbon fiber band around the cockpit on the inside of the deck for a tad more strength. Today I finished glassing the inside of the deck, then sanded and seal coated the inside of the hull.  I will be applying the glass [...]

Glass on the hull

Got a break from all the extra stuff I got going on, so sanded the hull, put the stems on and seal coated it.  Next I applied the dookie smutz to fill the knots and a few cracks.  While that was setting up, I sanded the inside of the deck and applied a seal coat [...]

Coaming riser has risen..

Finally got to do a little on the kayak, I’ve been busy with Mission week at our church. My project was a bathroom re-do, remove the tub and install a shower. In between that and another project for a friend, I glued some more sticks on the ‘yak. I put the cheek plates in [...]

SoF SeaPup: Skins are Hanging on the Wall

I received the skin from Rochford Supply. It was $3 cheaper per yard than Tom’s source and appears to be the same stuff. When he’s done moving and gets some internet I’ll see about sending a sample so he can test it and compare it to the Coverlight from Mauritzon.
The coaming is nearly [...]

SoF SeaPup: Time For Some Coaming.

Hannah pretends she’s floating on water while Kaner offers “help” with a tennis ball.
I stood the kayak on end on the scale and it weighs 15.6 lbs (7 kg).   The 14 feet (4.2m) sure does look tall standing up next to Hannah’s 50 inches.  She still thinks it’s too heavy but I’m sure she’ll [...]

Glass!

The sanding and cockpit hole cutting went so well today, I decided to glass the top of the deck. Next I’ll glue on the riser pieces and glass them to further strengthen that fragile area on each side of the cockpit. I departed from my usual method of applying a seal coat of [...]

Cockpit hole cut

Today I did some sanding and cut out the cockpit hole. I need to go back over it with 150 grit and then glass the top of the deck. Here’s a picture, more pics if you click on it..
Good building all..

SoF SeaPup: Finished Frame

Well, not actually finished, but it’s all glued and lashed in two places that I don’t think the glue will hold. I had to shim a few places and the chines aren’t perfectly symmetrical but they’re close. I think the worst error was a 3/8″ difference between sides and most are under 1/8″. [...]
