One of my favorite Canadians, Mag Ruffman, has a blog on home repairs, crafts and general constructing projects. Here is a link to a video to give you an idea of the zaniness.

Kayaking with Kurt yesterday

Friday, August 25th, 2006

I went kayaking with Kurt Maurer yesterday, always a fun and learning experience.

I’ve been trying to get my roll down and to build a bit more confidence. While playing in the shallows, working on the hip snap, Kurt said “that hip snap was pretty weak” so I did another and promptly went all the way over. I guess that one was strong enough.. Now to find a happy middle ground.

After going to deeper water, I nailed 3 more rolls. On the last one, my paddle was not set for the sweep and I noticed it was starting to dive. I stopped the attempt and got the paddle in the right position and ended up with a very nice sweep, snap, layback and recovery.

Information I learned / had reinforced, was: (more…)

More curling results!!

Friday, February 24th, 2006

OK, some of you are saying what the heck does this have to do with kayaking?????  Answer:  Absolutely nothing, but, it’s my blog and I can write what I want. Besides, curling is almost over.
The US won it’s first ever medal in curling today, a Bronze.  Edging out Great Britain in the last end where GB had a rock in the house that could tie the match and take it to extra ends,  The US had the hammer and curled the last shot around the gaurd, bumped out the rock and sat proud as you please closest to center.  This ended the match at 8-6.
Oh yeah, there was a Gold- Silver match too.  Canada seemed to have the touch today while Finland was a bit off the mark.  Finland came out and gave Canada the wakeup call in the first end by going ahead 2-0.  In the next end, Canada tied it up at 2-2.  Canada went on to score one in each of the next 2 ends then answered by Finland in the 5th end to make it 3-4.  End 6 became the deciding factor when Canada scored an astounding 6 points!  I believe this to be unheard of in olympic competition.  Now with the score at 3-10, the match continued to the 8th end where Finland scored one more point. Final score 4-10
Way to go Canada!!

Yeah, I like curling!

Congratulations Sweden!

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Sweden’s women win gold in Curling. Sweden, in a nail biting extra end edged out Switzerland 7 to 6 by taking out 2 stones in what was a perfect throw. I have actually curled in a Canadian league and can attest that this gold match I just saw was nothing short of spectacular. Skip, Anette Norberg, called the strategy the brought home the gold. Congratulations to team Sweden. More detailed results can be seen here.

What are the words to thaat song??

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

So, your cruising along in your kayak listening to your Ipod and all of a sudden, you are trying to figure out what the words to that song are. Well, your in luck! Take the Ipod off, you don’t need it for kayaking anyway.. listen to the birds check out nature and enjoy the day. After that, you can go home and check out the words to the song by going to this site: Link Right Lyrics! With 19,590 artists and 519,096 songs, yours probably won’t be there…. just kidding!! New artists and lyrics are constantly being added, so check back often. Some functions still need to be added, but there are a ton of links to other lyric sites.

Just thought that was cool…
